Beanhill Trout Lake
Beanhill trout fishery nestles in a wonderfully secluded, peaceful valley in the glorious Gloucestershire countryside. The lake is set amongst a back drop of rolling farmland and mixed woodland of the forest of dean, all of which is dissected by the fast, shallow waters of a babbling brook that feeds the fishery. This really is the perfect spot to escape the modern, outside world and loose yourself in the pursuit of your fishy quarry. The peace and tranquillity that can be found here is second to none and often the only sounds are the soft rustle of the wind among the leaves, the sharp call of a kingfisher or the cry of a buzzard as it floats high above the valley floor. For the purists out there, looking for that little bit more from their fishing to make a day really special this is the place, after all there is more to fishing than just catching fish. Don’t simply take our word for it, Beanhill was voted 22nd in the top 100 fisheries to visit by Trout Fisherman magazine. So come along and see for yourself, we promise you won’t be disappointed.
The lake itself is stream fed and crystal clear, so spotting your target is the easy part. At approximately 2 acres in size and with depths ranging from less than a couple of feet, down to roughly 14 feet at the dam end of the lake, by staying mobile you can search every corner of the lake and have the chance to vary your tactics. At the shallower end of the lake there are two small islands and the water narrows considerably. This provides the opportunity to stalk a fish at close quarters, again giving points of interest and variation in the fishing.
The fishery is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout from Bibury trout farm in the Cotswolds. These fish are of exceptional quality both in their condition and in their strength when hooked. If you are lucky enough to hook into one of these hard fighting fish the thrill of watching the battle unfold in our crystal clear water really does take some beating. The lake stock is managed on a rolling basis with catch reports being filled out and the stock being added to as it is required. We do not see the point in needlessly adding fish to the lake and strive to run a balanced fishery which offers fit, healthy and immaculately conditioned trout.
We can be found just one mile off the A48 at Alvington and only ten miles from both the M4 and M5 motorways. The position of the fishery means we are far enough away from major routes and big towns to benefit from quiet and scenic surroundings, yet close enough to be accessible and easy to find.
